Confirm the inner and outer interfaces

Double compression cable glands are specified where the chosen construction provides the required cable retention and sealing arrangement. In common armoured-cable designs, separate interfaces address the cable bedding and outer sheath. The exact design still needs its own drawing: the term double compression does not establish a universal two-seal geometry or protection rating.

This product type sits within Tirupati Power Enterprises’ existing single and double compression gland range. It helps distinguish a requirement that needs additional cable dimensions and armour checks from an enquiry based only on outside diameter. State the cable construction and the intended gland series before selecting a nominal size.

Check bedding, sheath and armour dimensions

Compare the gland chart with the outer sheath diameter and the diameter at the inner seal, where that design seals the bedding. Check the armour type and dimensions against the stated clamping range. These measurements describe different interfaces; one correct diameter does not show that the other parts will fit.

Cable makes can differ in overall diameter despite having the same conductor cross-section and core count. Wire armour, strip armour and braid may require different retention arrangements. For a new installation, use the cable manufacturer drawing. For a replacement, competent personnel should establish the relevant dimensions and condition through an appropriate isolated inspection.

Treat earthing and sealing as designed functions

An armoured-cable gland must suit the approved armour termination and earth-continuity arrangement. Specify any earth tag, bonding accessory or other connection required by the design. The enclosure material, entry position and cable support also influence the assembly. A gland name does not establish the fault-current performance of the complete earthing path.

Ingress protection and environmental suitability depend on the specific gland and its installed accessories. Double compression alone does not mean weatherproof, flameproof or suitable for a hazardous area. If the location has special requirements, provide the required specification and documentation so that the exact proposed series can be checked.

Quotation and installation information

Send outside and bedding diameters, armour details, enclosure entry thread, gland material or finish and quantity. Identify outdoor exposure, washdown, corrosive conditions or other relevant environmental factors. Include a preferred make or series only where the project specifies one; the enquiry should allow its availability and technical suitability to be confirmed.

Follow the manufacturer cable-preparation and assembly instructions for the selected gland. Cutting lengths, armour preparation, seal assembly and tightening are series-dependent. Installation personnel should verify that the cable is supported and that the assembled entry meets the project requirements. A generic dimension chart explains selection fields but cannot provide instructions for every double compression gland.

Questions about Double Compression Cable Glands

Why is bedding diameter needed?

Where the gland seals the inner bedding, that diameter must fit the inner seal range. The outer sheath diameter alone cannot establish compatibility.

Does double compression automatically mean flameproof?

No. Hazardous-area suitability depends on the exact gland design, certification and installation conditions required by the project.

Can I order by core count and cable cross-section?

Those details help identify the cable, but gland selection also needs actual cable dimensions, armour construction and enclosure entry details.
