Identify both sides of the connection
Aluminium cable lugs are selected for aluminium conductors and a terminal arrangement approved for that connection. Conductor material alone does not settle the choice: the mating terminal material, contact geometry and equipment instructions also matter. A connection to a copper terminal may call for a purpose-designed bimetallic interface instead of a plain aluminium palm.
This subtype distinguishes aluminium lug requirements within Tirupati Power Enterprises’ documented copper, aluminium and bimetallic cable lug range. Use it to specify the intended conductor and terminal relationship. The final reference must be checked against the cable and equipment documentation; the material name does not establish suitability for all aluminium cables.
Specify the conductor and preparation method
Provide cross-section, stranding or conductor class and any compacted or shaped construction. The barrel must accept the actual conductor type and be used with a matching compression system. A copper lug and aluminium lug for the same nominal cable cross-section are not assumed to share the same barrel dimensions or die requirement.
Aluminium surfaces require attention during preparation because the connection depends on the specified contact condition. Follow the lug manufacturer instructions for stripping, preparation and any oxide-inhibiting compound. Some designs may have factory-applied compound or specific handling requirements. Do not substitute a general cleaning method or chemical without confirming that it belongs to the approved connection procedure.
Review palm geometry and equipment compatibility
Confirm the terminal material, available contact area, stud diameter and required hole arrangement. Check palm width, thickness and cable-entry orientation against the equipment drawing. The lug and terminal must form a connection the equipment manufacturer permits, including the specified washers or other hardware where relevant.
A maintenance enquiry for an aluminium feeder often starts with cable size alone. Add the terminal photograph and drawing, previous lug reference and the approved connection details. If the existing joint has overheated, investigate the conductor condition and connection arrangement before choosing an equivalent. A larger-looking lug does not resolve incorrect preparation or incompatible terminal materials.
Make tooling and acceptance part of the enquiry
Specify quantities by conductor size and terminal arrangement, with the required lug reference or acceptable alternative criteria. Include tool and die details, installation instructions and any required identification or traceability documents. If the application uses a cable termination kit, confirm the lug dimensions and sealing interface with that kit as well.
Installation should be undertaken by qualified personnel using the selected lug instructions and the equipment connection requirements. Crimp sequence, preparation, bolt tightening and inspection are specific to the connection system. Retain the final product and tooling references so future replacements use the approved arrangement. This product enquiry covers material selection and procurement; it does not establish a completed joint or provide a universal test limit.

Questions about Aluminium Cable Lugs
Can an aluminium lug connect directly to copper busbar?
Only where the connection design and equipment instructions permit that interface. A bimetallic lug may be required; the conductor and mating terminal should be reviewed together.
Is aluminium conductor size sufficient for selection?
No. Conductor construction, terminal material and geometry, tooling and preparation requirements also need confirmation.
Should every aluminium lug receive extra compound?
Follow the selected manufacturer instructions. Factory preparation and compound requirements differ, so additional treatment should not be assumed.
