Measure the load profile

A single power-factor reading cannot describe a variable industrial load. Review demand and power-factor trends across shifts before deciding the total kVAr and number of stages.

Check harmonic conditions

Non-linear loads such as drives and rectifiers can over-stress ordinary capacitor banks. A harmonic survey helps determine whether detuned reactors or filtered correction is required.

Choose the switching strategy

Conventional contactor switching suits slower load changes; thyristor switching is preferred where reactive demand changes rapidly and transient-free operation matters.

Estimate the correction kVAr

For an ideal steady load: Qc = kW × [tan(acos(present PF)) − tan(acos(target PF))].

Estimated correction: 42.1 kVAr

This is a starting estimate, not a final bank rating. Stage selection, harmonic distortion, voltage, reactor design and load variation need engineering review. Savings depend on your utility tariff and measured usage.
